Frequently Asked Questions

How did you get to be a Pet Business Expert?

I spent almost 30 years in the corporate sector in a variety of roles, all of which included mentoring and coaching employees. During that time, I led organizations of up to 2400 people and I worked in Operations, Quality and Continuous Improvement where I spent three years teaching people how to analyze and improve their processes. I used this experience and knowledge to start my own successful pet sitting and dog walking business in 2017 wich I grew to 6 figure revenue and over a dozen employees.

Along the way I started coaching pet business owners part time but realized I love working with other pet business owners and started coaching full time.

I’ve helped dozens of pet business owners make their businesses work for them.

Who are your clients?

I work with motivated, growth oriented pet business owners who want to create a pet business that works for them financially, professionally and personally. They are ‘doers’ and ‘thinkers’ who seek to create freedom in their lives.

I have two types of clients. Those who are just starting or want to start pet businesses. They may have some experience managing people or organizations or they may have even started their own non pet related company at some point. They’re eager to jump into the pet business market but they’re not sure where to start and who to turn to.

The second type of client are those who have an established pet business. They’ve been in business for one or many years and they’ve hit a wall. They’ve gotten to the point where they need to implement more robust systems to facilitate growth and to allow them to step back from working in their business to work on their business.

How are you different from other business coaches?

I’m different for two reasons. First, I’ve walked the talk. I owned a pet sitting and dog walking business for many years. I struggled through challenges in my business, the same challenges that you’re struggling with right now. Pet businesses aren’t like other businesses. Working with pets and pet parents is a different sort of ‘animal’ (pun intended). I can help you because I’ve been there and done that.

The second reason I’m different is because I understand that your business is unique. Unlike other coaches who offer a canned package approach that treats everyone the same, I offer only one on one coaching. This allows me to customer taylor advice and guidance specifically to you and your business, allowing you to more quickly hone in on what your business needs most.

What is your coaching style and approach?

I’m a very methodic and practical person and that’s reflected in my coaching style. My expertise is in developing effective processes to help your business grow. While theory is nice, theory without action is useless. In my coaching I focus on simple, step by step actions that you can take to incrementally improve your business. I don’t offer overnight miracle solutions and fixes because there are none. Instead I offer a path that anyone can follow without feeling even more overwhelmed.

Who will this approach NOT work for?

If you’re looking for quick fixes to complex problems we are not a good fit. I’m all about personal accountability, mine as well as yours. I know what it takes to succeed and I want you to succeed. If you aren’t willing to put in the work and are looking for someone to ‘do it’ for you then this is not for you. On the other hand, if you are motivated and truly ready to make meaningful changes in your pet business then this is absolutely for you!

Recharge and Reset for 2024

It’s January. Last year is still visible in the rear view mirror but the road ahead is 2024. I talked a lot about looking back on 2023 last month. December is always a good time to reflect on the past 12 months and it’s important to stop and remember the wins and the...

What are your (business) traditions?

Every year around November I go to my local coffee shop and I order a Pumpkin Spice Latte. The funny thing is, I don’t even like PSLs. I never drink those sweet syrupy coffee drinks. I’m more of a ‘straight cup of the bold roast with just a pinch of half and half’...
